Day 5 Tuesday We entertain

Finally we met with Pascale at Starbucks. She was already there when we arrived bearing raisin bread for a goodie. She had lots to share. She is on a Jury to judge writers of the French language and will be in Quebec for a week and then is going onto L. A. for a month. Another book is in the works. She also is in negotiations to organize a conference. Life is looking good for her.

We stopped at Mike & Stewart’s for a pit stop and to borrow their caddy. (aka “wheelie”). We went back to Monoprix and picked up the 13 bottles of wine. Then we walked all the way home dragging our 2 wheelies behind us.

For lunch we picked up Croque Monsieurs (French grilled cheese sandwiches) and then Marie made fried eggs which turned them into Croque Madames. We had them with salad.

We rested for a little while and then took a walk to the 15th’s town hall. Saturday and Sunday are the days of patrimony when all of the museums and things are open and we are trying to find out more about it. Everyone says look on the internet. We have – it just says that everything is open and free and that reservations are a good idea. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell you how to make them or have a reservation system online.

Sister Elizabeth came for drinks and snackies.
There is a nunnery on the 6th floor. Sr. Elizabeth works as a chaplin at Nekker hospital and then also does the accounts and the laundry for the group. She is so tired she can barely function. She lived in San Diego for a long previous assignment so her english is excellent.
We had olives, cheese, salami, tomatoes, almonds, bread and wine. We decided that we didn’t need to eat dinner and that this would give us a good opportunity to go to Notre Dame for a Sound and Light type show. As we were walking to the metro, we met 2 neighbors who live on the next floor up and one of them invited us for dinner tomorrow. (This is the most social visit I have ever had in Paris.)

After Notre Dame, we walked home. Stopped at Amerino for ice cream. We came across a store that sold toe shoes. They had tutus in the window and used them also for shades on the hanging lamps. If you look carefully, you can see the shoes on shelves in the background.
As we neared home, it was time for the Eiffel tower to sparkle so we took a little detour to see it better. This year the tower is blue at night instead of gold. It is very pretty, but a little harder to see against the night sky.
