Oct 12 Sun. Wangfujing Shopping Street.

Chuck is being introduced to many parts of Beijing that he hasn't seen before. Today was the big shopping street that is just east of the Forbidden City.

First we had to take a picture of the bride picture. This was just outside the front door of the hotel. (I presume that they are having lunch there.

As I was snapping away, the groom's aunt came over and started chatting in Chinese. She repeated herself many times, using my father's favorite technique. Speak loudly and slowly and keep getting louder. The foreigner will surly understand you then!

Her son finally came over and told us in English that they were related to the groom.

Chuck and I normally go places by metro and then come home by taxi. It works pretty well. Wangfujing is a pedestrian shopping street with a wide variety of shops, big department stores, the famous silk store that also has a tailor, and lots of little places. Nike is a huge presence in China.

We had lunch at a baguette place. (I think that this is the first time that we haven't had Chinese food except for breakfasts.)

After wandering and looking, we went home. That night we went to a new restaurant that was just off the campus.

We had calf's ribs.

Baby cabbage in casserole:
Spicy Shrimp (very spicy shrimp.)
The ubiquitous watermelon. The watermelon cutting girl must have cut 50 of them. We kept seeing plates going by our table.

And we finished with the dessert tasting plate.

Some were good, some were strange. I think that they all looked better than they were. Desserts are not a Chinese thing.

Just as we were finishing, some people from the conference were leaving so we had a nice chat. They were leaving for Wuhan the next day.

Chuck has found snooker on the TV, so he watches happily when we are in the room.
