Saturday in Brisbane

Saturday – Just hanging out

We slept late and just decided to have a quiet day walking around Brisbane.

We found a herd of metal kangaroos.

The shopping district is really fun. The Queen Anne mall is at first glance a lot like the 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica. The difference is that inside of every opening is another mall with lots of shops and a food court. I have never seen so many food courts in a two block area. Australians are not going to starve.

We happened upon a celebration of New Guinea independence. They played bamboo pipes with thong sandals. There were dancing and jewelry vendors. This is the real serendipity of the way we wander around, we come across the most marvelous things.

The amazing thing is that the bamboo band sounded wonderful. They were also auctioning off the “original thong sandal”. It finally sold for $150. (I think to the New Guinea Counsel General.)
