Oct 19 Sun National Art Museum

Every time we leave the hotel room, we discover things that we didn't know were happening. We spotted the Beijing Marathon from a metro platform when we were changing trains.

We stopped at a quiet spot on the street to talk to Alec and the kinder in L. A. We do miss them. In one month, they change so much. They had been to the UCLA football game, Philippe's for dinner and then to Jo-Ann's Fabrics to pick up some stuff for the Halloween costumes.

We walked on to the National Art Museum. This one specializes in late 20th and early 21st century stuff.

They had a special exhibit of the history of Max Mara coats. I loved it.

Another special exhibit of Manolo Valdes, a young Spanish artist.

After walking around for awhile we needed a tea break. It is really quite lovely to be served the tea in little pots that get replenished with hot water many times. So much nicer than a tea bag in a cup.

After the museum, we walked up to Baihai park. (For my 3rd visit this time.) At least I didn't have to climb up to the top of the white pagoda.

A cutie having her picture taken.

We are very lucky getting taxis at all times except when we are going for dinner. We had no trouble getting back to the hotel, but again had our 1/2 hour walk to the restaurant.

We had heard about a "fusion restaurant" and wanted to try it. Instead we ended up in a hot pot place because we were on the wrong floor. Not a problem, we had a good dinner and will go to the other one next time.

Each of us had our individual hot pot. (Before this we have always had one big pot.)

We had an assortment of meat and fish balls. They are very hard to get out of the hot pot with chop sticks - the little suckers kept escaping and sliding away. We finally asked for spoons.

An assortment of vegetables and an assortment of meat.

We also had an assortment of dipping sauces. We both liked the sesame paste with cashews and coriander best.

Finished with oranges for dessert.

Had no trouble getting a taxi home!
